Bolt bids for 12th world championships gold medal

The world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, will be hoping to add another gold medal to his collection as he races on Saturday at the ongoing IAAF World Championships in London.

The Jamaican, who is leading a list of athletes with the highest number of golds won, will take to the track later in the day to defend his 100m crown.

On Friday, Bolt described his performance as “very bad” as he won his 100m heat in 10.07 seconds, to advance to the semifinals.

He beat Britain’s James Dasaolu into second (10.13) but was frustrated with his start.

“That was very bad,” Bolt said after the race. “I’m not fond of these blocks.

“I have to get this start together because I can’t keep doing this. It’s shaky.”

The 30-year old, who has 11 world and eight Olympic gold medals, 13 of which have come in individual events, will race in the third and final semi-final, scheduled at 6:19pm (Nigerian time), with the final slated for 8:45pm.

He will be competing against American Christian Coleman, the world’s fastest over 100m this year with 9.82sec, in his semi-final.

Meanwhile, Bolt is expected to retire from athletics at the end of this season.
