The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has said there has been a case of reported car bomb in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Unconfirmed reports say more than 18 people died in the blast.
NEMA had said on its twitter handle: “There is a reported case of bomb blast around Muna Garage.

According to reports from the North East state, the blast occurred on the outskirts of the Maiduguri in a convoy of vehicles and trucks conveying goods and passengers on their way to Gamboru Ngala.

The Maiduguri-Gamboru Ngala route is not passable without military escorts.

According to an eyewitness, 10 corpses were seen at the scene of the explosion while a source at the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital said 18 bodies have so far been brought to the hospital’s mortuary.

The Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, who confirmed the explosion, however said only five people died while five others sustained injuries.
