Confusion looms at Seme border, as joint security force begins operation

A monarch from Ogun state, Ooye of Iwoye Ketu, Oba Joel Alaye, on Monday said the partial closure of the border by the Federal Government had subjected his community to serious difficulties.

The monarch while raising alarm about what he described as a horrible situation said the residents of border communities had been greeted with fuel scarcity with petrol being sold at N350 per litre.

The Ooye of Ketu who spoke in a statement on Monday, also cried out that that the security operatives at the border were preventing movement of petrol tankers into border communities such as  Iwoye-Ketu, Idofa,  Ilara, Oke Agbede,  Moriwi and Wasinmi Okuta.

He said the action had subjected the border residents to untold hardship.

He however, called on the Federal Government to quickly intervene in the issue of scarcity of fuel in order to allow his people do legitimate business.

“As of today, a litre of petrol is now N350 per litre due to the overzealousness of the task force creating unwarranted hardship for my people.

“I am now appealing to the Federal Government to quickly intervene because we are all Nigerians doing a legitimate business.

“Most of us are predominantly farmers who can’t afford N350 per litre of fuel.

“For the past three weeks, we have been battling with the issue of tomatoes,  yam and other perishable goods but now the issue of artificial scarcity of fuel is biting harder and my community can’t fold its arms, the government must find an urgent solution,” the statement read.
