BOTSWANA: 19-yr old girl arrested for mimicking First Lady

The police in Botswana have arrested and charged a 19-year old girl to court for allegedly mimicking the First Lady, Leo Masisi, on her Facebook page, Mmegi online reports.

On or around November 11, the arrested 19-year old identified as Moniwe Nicholas Kamwi shared a Facebook post which reportedly violated the country’s cybercrime laws which came into effect in 2018.

The charge sheet mentions her “posting a photo of First Lady Neo Masisi… likening her with comedian William Motsetserepa,” according to Mmegi Online.

Such an offence can carry a fine of up to 20,000 Bostwanan pulas (£1,400; $1,800) or up to a year in prison, the news site says.
