BRAZIL: Gunmen kill 11, one injured during attack at a bar

A group of gunmen on Sunday, opened fire at a bar in Brazil’s northern Par state, killing 11 people and injuring one other.

According to the state security agency which confirmed the killing, six women and five men died in the incident while seven gunmen were involved in the attack.

Associated Press revealed that National Guard troops were dispatched to Belém by the federal government in March to guard the city for 90 days.

According to statistics, Brazil is said to have recorded 64,000 homicides in 2017, 70% of which were due to firearms.

A record of up to 2, 300 shootings have been recorded in the country’s second biggest city Rio de Janeiro while majority of the killings are attributed to rival clashes which has resulted to many deaths.
