Breaking...Buhari in unassailable lead as INEC concludes collation of presidential results

President Muhammadu Buhari is only official-declaration away from winning reelection after national vote tallies by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

From collated results of the 36 states of the federation plus the FCT, the president has secured an estimated 56 percent of the votes, while also meeting the mandatory constitutional requirement of scoring at 25% of votes cast in two-thirds of the states of the federation.

Buhari’s closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, is estimated to have scored about 42 per cent of the votes while also meeting the mandatory constitutional minimum of 25% in two-thirds of the states.

While Buhari won a total of 19 states, Abubakar won 18 states.

Official declaration of the winner is pending as INEC has adjourned the process by a few hours.
