Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday formally declared his intention to succeed his boss, President Muhammaadu Buhari in the 2023 presidential election.

Osinbajo made this formal declaration on Monday morning via a video posted on Twitter.

“I am today, with utmost humility formally declaring my intention to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of APC,” the Vice President noted in the video.

He also recalled how he had served Nigerians under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari who he called a “patriot”, in order to navigate the various challenges bedeviling the country.

“In this period of seven years, I have served in several capacities, representing the country in sensitive engagements. I have been to all local governments in the country, listening to the yearnings of our people. I know the hopes and aspirations of the people.

“I believe in these hope are the seed for the Nigeria we desire and the reason God gave me this opportunity and experiences is that they must be put to the use of the country which is why I declare my intention to run for office of the President under the All Progressives Congress.

“We must radically transform our security, completing judicial reforms and adequate remuneration of personnel and justice for all, rapidly advancing our infrastructural development. Ensuring rapid agricultural development to boost food insecurity while providing jobs for millions,” the Vice President noted.

As a result of this declaration, the fight to secure the presidential ticket of the APC will be an intriguing one since the National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu is also in the race.

Tinubu is widely known as the mentor and former boss of the Vice President, who served under him as commissioner for justice and attorney-general when Tinubu was governor of Lagos State.
