Zverev and Djokovic

Alexander Zverev stunned world number one Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win the season-ending ATP Finals.

It is the biggest victory of Zverev’s career, as the 21-year fell to the court in a mixture of disbelief and celebration while Djokovic jumped over the net to congratulate him.

31-year-old Djokovic was the favourite of the com9etition, but lost 6-4 6-3 to the German on Sunday night.

Both men had met in the round-robin stage, with the Serb carrying the day, leading to his easy run to the knockout stage.

But after making it to the semis and beating Roger Federer on Saturday, Zverev produced a more confident performance to win the end-of-season title.

Meanwhile, the defeat stop Djokovic from winning a record-equalling sixth ATP Finals title.

“I’m unbelievably happy. Obviously it is the biggest title I have ever won,” said Zverev, who took home about £2m in prize money.

“How I played today, how I won it, for me it’s just amazing”

In response, Djokovic said: “You definitely played much better than you did the group stage.

“You deserved to win.”

Zverev becomes the first player to beat both Djokovic and Federer in the same ATP Finals, and also the youngest champion at the ATP Finals since Djokovic in 2008.
