Saraki's endless saga of proving his innocense by evading trial

After the Senate President Bukola Saraki failed to show up at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for the second day, to answer charges related to false declaration of assets, the Tribunal issued an order to the police that he should be brought before it tomorrow (Tuesday) by 10am.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar gave the order today at the resumed trial of the case.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal has dismissed an ex-parte application by Dr. Saraki, seeking to set aside the order made on Friday by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) issuing a bench warrant for Saraki’s arrest.
Justice Armed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, in another ruling, refused a similar application by Saraki.
Mohammed said the court will not waste time on interlocutory matters.
He adjourned to September 30 for the hearing of the substantive suit by Saraki, challenging the competence of charge before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) and the preliminary objection filed by the CCT, and Federal Ministry of Justice.

Justice Mohammed held that, in view of the constitutional and radical nature of the issues raised in the respondents’ objection, it was reasonable for the court not to waste time on interlocutory applications.
