British opposition leader queries May's decision to join military strike against Syria

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has received heavy knocks from opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn who says she should have sought parliamentary approval before joining the military strike against Syria.

Corbyn who said May could face a backlash in parliament for her decision also described the allies bombing of Syria as “legally questionable” and risks further escalating “an already devastating conflict”.

“May should have sought parliamentary approval, not trailed after Donald Trump,” he said on Saturday.

Corbyn also added the strikes will make assigning blame for the use of chemical weapons in Syria “less, not more, likely”.

“Bombs won’t save lives or bring about peace,” he said, adding that Britain should be leading the response and “not taking instructions from Washington and putting British military personnel in harms way”.

Meanwhile, Russia and Iran have warned the US and its allies of grave consequences following America’s attack on a Syrian ‘chemical weapons sites’, in collaboration with UK and France.

The attack on Syria was ordered by US President Donald Trump “on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities”.

The attacks early on Saturday come in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack in the former rebel stronghold of Douma last weekend.
