Budget 2018: Presidency, N/Assembly guilty of flouting rules –CSJ

Published

The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) yesterday carpeted President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly on the delay in the passage and assenting to the 2018 budget, describing the situation as a recurring decimal that had its roots in lawlessness on the part of both arms of government.

In a reaction to the verbal war between the Presidency and National Assembly following the signing of the budget into law, CSJ said both arms were guilty of not adhering to the timeliness set by the Fiscal Responsibility Act on the preparation and consideration of the budget.

Lead Director of CSJ, Eze Onyekpere argued that by submitting the 2018 budget estimates on November 7, 2017, the budget was already late and it was deceptive for the Presidency to had expected the budget to be considered and passed before the end of December 2017.
