BUHARI TO AISHA: You belong to the kitchen

President Muhammadu Buhari has made light of the statements credited to his wife, Aisha, wherein she criticised some aspects of his administration which bothered on political appointments.

The president who was responding to questions in Germany that his wife was unhappy with the composition of his cabinet stated, “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”

The president was reported to have further responded, that ” I claim superior knowledge over her and the rest of the opposition, because in the end I have succeeded. It’s not easy to satisfy the whole Nigerian opposition parties or to participate in the government.”

Aisha Buhari’s interview with the BBC has continued to raise questions, and insinuations that all may not be well with the first family, and that the first lady may be disenchanted because the president may have refused to honour some of her nominees for appointments.

These developments come on the heels of internal rancours within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which have seen the acclaimed leader of the party, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, calling for the sack of the National Chairman, John Odigie Oyegun, over perceived irregularities in the Ondo APC gubernatorial primaries.

Only recently too, President Buhari’s biography written by Professor John Paden stired the relationship between him and  Tinubu as aides of the latter accused the author of mischief and misrepresentation. At the centre of discord was Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who Paden had claimed was resisted by Tinubu even after he had been nominated by Buhari for the job.
