2019: Labour Party faction wants to negotiate with Buhari with claims of 16m votes

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday said that the security of Nigerians has been receiving the greatest attention in his administration and that there is no compromise in the commitment.

He stated that his security team is still working on developing a solution to the problem.

He therefore appealed to Nigerians to try and exercise more patience while his security teams “crack their brains” to put an end to wanton killings across the country.

A statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, quoted Buhari as saying this following killings of more people, including a district head, in and around Gandi village in Rabah Local Government of Sokoto State by bandits, which he condemned.

Killings by suspected herdsmen and bandits appears to have worsened since January 1, of this year when more than 70 people were massacred in Benue State, over 17 in Rivers State and many others in Kaduna and Adamawa.

Since then, there have been almost weekly reports of killings of Nigerians in their numbers either by the suspected herdsmen or other criminal elements.

However Buhari in the statement by Shehu, was quoted as saying, “I wish to assure all Nigerians that their security is receiving the greatest attention from this administration and there is no compromise in this commitment.

“I appeal for your patience while my security teams crack their brains to put an end to this horrendous violence.”

The statement quoted Buhari as further saying, “This wanton violence against innocent people won’t be tolerated by this government, and we are working round the clock to identify the people sponsoring these heartless attacks.

“It is curious why any group of mass murderers would be targeting and killing innocent people for no just reason.

“Make no mistake about it, my administration remains committed to security as one of its core objectives, and any attempt to test our will by any group of anarchists and troublemakers will be met with equal force.

“Identifying and defeating these callous killers is receiving priority from this administration, and we shall spare no effort in tracing the root of this evil, especially their sources of funding and arms.”

Calls by Nigerians at individual and group levels for the dismissal of the security chiefs for their seeming inability to so far address the senseless killings appears to have continued to fall on deaf ears.
