Buhari meets Lawan, Goje behind closed-doors ahead N’Assembly leadership election

President Muhammadu Buhari is in a meeting with Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan, and Senator Danjuma Goje.

The two senators are among the frontline lawmakers aspiring to become the next Senate President when the Senate elects its new leadership on June 11.

Lawan and Goje from Yobe and Gombe states respectively, arrived the Presidential Villa together some minutes after 11:00a.m. and went straight to Buhari’s office.

Earlier before their arrival, Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai also arrived the Villa and went straight to the office of the president.

Although the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had adopted Lawan as its preferred candidate to succeed outing Senate President Bukola Saraki, Senator Goje and former Senate Majority Leader, Ali Ndume, are insisting to contest for the position.

Speculations are that Buhari may want to use the meeting to appeal to the senators to see why one of them should step down for the other.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has proclaimed that the first session of the Ninth National Assembly is to hold on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
