Buhari meets security chiefs as backlash over herdsmen attacks, insecurity heightens

Apparently as parts of efforts to seek ways of ending heightened insecurity situation across the country following herdsmen killings and other security menaces, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with security chiefs.

The meeting was held behind closed doors inside the president’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja with the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali; and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, leading the other security chiefs to the meeting.

The meeting which the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Abubakar, attended for the first time also had aside the service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris in attendance.

The meeting was made known to the public via a twitter message the Presidency posted on its twitter handle.

The tweet read, “Security meeting today, presided over by President @MBuhari. NSA, Service Chiefs, Intelligence Chiefs, IGP in attendance.

“President briefed on Intelligence-gathering and law enforcement efforts across the country, by the various agencies.”

This is coming just as former President Olusegun Obasanjo had in his letter asking Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019, pointed out as part of President Buhari’s failures, the manner he has been handling issues of suspected Fulani herdsmen killings across the country.

Obasanjo’s statement was in agreement with what many Nigerians had also condemned and still crying to see the president take decisive actions on.
