President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the nomination of Folashodun Shonubi as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) subject to Senate confirmation.

The nomination of Shonubi followed the formal acceptance of the resignation of the former CBN Deputy Governor, Adebayo Adelabu, from the apex bank by President Buhari in May, and expected to take effect from July 15, 2018.

The approval was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

Shonubi is currently the Managing Director of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBBS) Plc – the financial payments, facilitation and settlement platform – which has been instrumental to the growth in electronic payments in the Nigerian financial industry

The statement stated that, before Shonubi assumed the headship of NIBBS in 2012, he had garnered decades of executive-level experience in financial service operations, notably as Executive Director at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Renaissance Securities Nigeria Ltd and Ecobank Nigeria Plc.
