There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may have ordered a discreet investigation of the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in connection with allegations of acts believed to be in variance with what the leadership of the anti crime agency should be. The investigation is reportedly being coordinated by the office of the National Security Adviser and involving officials from the National Intelligence Agency and the Department of State Services.

According to Vanguard reports, a source in the office of the National Security Adviser, said the investigation commenced before the petition submitted by Dr. George Uboh to the Senate.

Uboh, the Chief Executive Officer, Panic Alert Security Services, had l alleged in his petition that EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, could not account for seized monies and properties amounting to over a trillion naira.

Lamorde, in a recent interview with the BBC, denied the allegation, adding that the EFCC had replied the Senate stating the facts. He also said some reputable audit firms had been engaged to audit the activities of the commission since it was created.
