#BUDGET2018: Nigerian govt proposes to spend N8.612trn

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the House of Representatives that he would want to present the 2018 budget proposal to a joint session of the House on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara made this known at plenary while leading a letter from the president to lawmakers.

The lawmakers initially rejected the president’s notice but were overruled by the speaker who told them they had no right to reject the move by the president, as it is a constitutional provision.

The Minister for Budget and National Planning, Mr. Udo Udoma, had earlier promised that the 2018 budget will be presented to the National Assembly by the end of October.

However, the letter announcing its presentation on November 7, came two days after the deadline the economic team promised that the President would present the 2018 budget.

According to the letter, Buhari is expected to make the presentation by 2pm.
