President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria after their hard-earned victory over Cameroon on Saturday.

The Eagles put up a big fight against the Indomitable Lions at the Alexandria Stadium in Egypt to seal a 3-2 victory in their last-16 clash.

Late first-half goals by Stephane Bahoken and Clinton Njie had put defending champions Cameroon ahead of Nigeria, cancelling the 19th-minute opener by Odion Ighalo.

Alex Iwobi then scored the winner of the game in the 66th minute moments after a second goal by Ighalo had scored again to level for Nigeria.

“Congratulations to our Super Eagles,” the President tweeted moments after the game.

“We salute your hardwork, team spirit and sportsmanship. You have our full support on this quest for glory,” he added.

The Super Eagles began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Burundi and also won their second game 1-0 against Guinea, before losing to Madagascar 2-0 in their final group game.

Having edged past Cameroon in the second round, they play again in the quarter-finals against either hosts Egypt or perennial rivals, South Africa.
