PDM candidate asks tribunal to nullify Buhari's election

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said that presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar’s challenge of his defeat in court was something he already expected.

Buhari said this soon after casting his vote at the ongoing governorship and State House Assembly elections at the polling unit 003 Kofar Baru III, Gidan Niyam, Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari was on February 27 declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the presidential election that held on February 23

His closest rival, Atiku who ran under the platform of major opposition PDP had vowed to challenge his defeat in court. Already he had approached the election tribunal to pray that materials used for the presidential election be inspected by his legal team.

The request has been granted to him by the tribunal.

Reacting on the development, Buhari told newsmen that Atiku’s decision to drag him to court over his defeat was what he expected to happen.

“I expect that to happen,” he said, adding that he was worried over reported cases of violence before and during the last presidential and national assembly elections.

On how he will handle the security issues he said, “I will leave it (security) to the law enforcement agencies especially the police, because they have been meeting virtually on a 48-hour basis to make sure that they have identified the flashpoints, as you mentioned, wherever they are and make arrangements to counter it.”
