Buhari says he’s not generous, assures supporters of rewards from God

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday told his supporters that he was not known to be a generous person, assuring them that God will reward them for their personal sacrifices to support him.

He told this to a delegation of members of Buhari Support Group Centre (BSGC), when he received them at the State House, Abuja.

Using the opportunity of the visit to speak on the forthcoming National Honours Award, Buhari said the goal of his government remains to “leave a better country for our children, and for coming generations.”

Adding that Nigerians who partake in such national effort would be accordingly rewarded with national honours, he said, “Many people are qualified for such honours. We are looking at it, and we will appreciate the contributions of such people.”

He praised members of BSGC for their continuous support for him since he joined partisan politics, noting that they have consistently kept their support for him out of their personal conviction, “because I’m not known to be a very generous person.”

He went further to say, “What you are doing can’t be materially compensated. You are doing it out of conviction, at the expense of your pockets, and it is God that will reward you.”

In his response, Director General of BSGC, Umaru Dembo, told President Buhari that his group had made Nigerians to see reasons they must get their voter cards, keep them safe and ensure they vote the right candidates during the coming elections.

Meanwhile, President Buhari had also on Thursday assured Nigerians that he was not going to disappoint them.

He sated this also at the State House, Abuja when he was decorated Grand Patron of the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA), by the Board of Trustees of the prime media awards organization in the country.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, Buhari was quoted saying that the investiture was “a timely honour,” adding that he had known a good number of the members of the NMMA board, “since the time I didn’t even know I would be here.”

According to a former Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Engr. Vincent Maduka, who led the delegation, Buhari was qualified to be grand patron, “because you respect the rights of the media to practice, without any hindrance.”
