Buhari seeks Jonathan’s help on Avengers

Published

President Muhammadu Buhari may have finally woken up to the reality of the impact of the ongoing spate of bombings by the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, as he met behind closed doors with former President Goodluck Jonathan, Thursday night over the issue.

The meeting, held inside the official residence of the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, reportedly started at about 9pm.

According to a Presidency source, the meeting, described as “private” is believed to have centred on the renewed violence in the Niger Delta being perpetrated by a group called the Niger Delta Avengers.

“Indeed, the two leaders met. The meeting was a private one. I believe it has to do with the militants’ attacks in the Niger Delta. The former President must have offered useful suggestions and assistance on the way out,” the source said.

There is no official confirmation of the meeting yet.
The meeting came about 24 hours after the former President returned to the country.
