Even as he is expected to submit the much anticipated list of ministerial nominees today to the National Assembly, President Muhammadu Buhari has hinted that he is likely to head the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, which is considered as Nigeria’s cash cow himself.

The president who spoke during an interview in New York last night, shortly before departing for Nigeria, said “I will remain Minister of Petroleum.” He added, “I will appoint a Minister of State for Petroleum.”

Buhari restated his determination to sanitise Nigeria’s oil industry and free it from corruption and shady deals.

It would be recalled that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, for most part of his tenure, was the minister of petroleum.

OBJ’s heading of the petroleum ministry didn’t make any difference. Hopefully, PMB will do better. I still believe in his integrity, but he needs competent hands to work with to not only sanitize but also revitalize the ministry. I wish him all the best and pray he succeeds in this one.
