Buhari to host Eaglets, D’Tigers, others January 21

Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari will reward the victorious U-17 male team, the Golden Eaglets, to a reception on January 21, 2016 in Abuja.

Also on card to be hosted by President Buhari include the D’Tigers which won the 2015 FIBA Africa Basketball Championship in Tunisia, Team Nigeria of the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa, and World Scrabble Champion, Wellington Jighere.

According to Dalung, “The federal government has approved a comprehensive package for all the athletes and the package is not limited to football, but to the Scrabble, Basketball, and all athletes that had made the country proud in 2015, they will all be duly rewarded.”

When asked what the recommendation he gave to the President look is like. Dalung replied; “the recommendation is subject to the approval of Mr. President and since it’s a package it cannot be unveiled until that day.”

The Minister added that the Golden Eaglets of 1985 who were promised houses for winning the maiden edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in China will also be rewarded.
