There are indications that the President, Muhammadu Buhari, would submit the 2021 federal budget estimates to the National Assembly next week.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, gave the hint during plenary on Tuesday when he read out a letter from the president to that extent.

Lawmakers will look to October for budget defence while the internal processing of the bill will happen in November, Mr Lawan said.

“The committee interacted with over 300 MDAs over the issues of revenue generation and remittances to the federal government.

“The joint committee will present its report to the Senate today for consideration. This is a precursor to the presentation of the 2021 Budget Estimates by the Executive Arm of Government soon,” Mr Lawan said of the Senate Joint Committee on Finance and National Planning.

In another development, Lawan told the Senate of the president’s request for the approval of the appointment of eight Court of Appeal and Supreme Court judges.
