Killing for cows: Who will save Benue?

There are hints that President Muhammadu Buhari may have cancelled plans to build a massive film village in Kano state.

According to a BBC report, the decision followed social media outcry and opposition from Muslim clerics, claiming that building a film village in the state will increase immorality in the Muslim state.

The Federal Government budgeted more than N3 billion ($10m; £7.6m) for the project as a means to improving the Hausa language film industry known as Kannywood.

While government had claimed that the village would create thousands of job opportunities and promote cultural activities, the call from Muslim clerics against such a plan, which they argue would promote immorality, may have led government to rest the plan.

President Buhari’s aide, it was gathered, told local media that the president has listened to the voices of those against building of the film village.
