Buhari’s body language shows a confused administration —Afolabi-Akiyode

The Chairperson of Transition Monitoring Group, Dr. Abiola Afolabi-Akiyode, Thursday, said the body language of President Muhammdu Buhari shows a confused administration that cannot lead Nigeria to a state of development, stating she has lost confidence in his administration.

Afolabi-Akiyode said this at the maiden edition of Ripples Nigeria Dialogue tagged “Rebuilding Trust in a Divided Nigeria”, organized in partnership with Ripples Center for Data and Investigative Journalism (RCDIJ) held in Lagos.

She said, “I think I have lost confidence in this administration. If you look at the fact that some of the promises he made and the barometers the people have put together to monitor the promises he made based on what is expected of him show he has achieved nothing, especially in the area of corruption.”

She said Nigeria has had the opportunity to build the nation but Nigerian leaders have not been able to implement the solutions that have been put in place to build unity and trust. According to her, “The people (leaders) that represent us do not have the solutions but they are the ones that are bringing up the solutions.”

She said that past national conferences held by the past administration could have helped in solving the problem of trust and unity among Nigerians but the current administration has filed to put that into consideration. “The administration has the opportunity to do the same. There was national conference during Olusegun Obasanjo’s and Goodluck Jonathan. President Buhari has the opportunity to do the same,” she said.

She stated that Nigeria cannot rebuild trust if the “real people” in government cannot solve the various challenges confronting Nigeria. “We can’t rebuild a society where the people live under insecurity, and unemployment. It is painful.”
