Buhari’s govt building grazing reserves for herdsmen across Nigeria soon

Despite kicks from good a number of Nigerians against ranches and grazing reserves for Fulani herdsmen, President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has resolved to go ahead and establish them across the country.

According to the Federal Government, ranches and grazing reserves would soon be established for Fulani herdsmen in the country in order to stave off further violent altercation between the pastoralist and sedentary farmers.

While stating its resolve to go ahead with the programme, the Federal Government argued that local herdsmen do not attack farmers and communities. It said the attacks and killings should be blamed on the influx of foreign herdsmen into Nigeria.

This was stated by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Engr. Babachir David Lawal in Abuja when he received a delegation of Tabital Pulako Njode Jam Foundation, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Bali. It was made available to journalists in a statement by the Director of Press in the office of the SGF, Bolaji Adebiyi.

Mr Lawal “reiterated the decision of the present administration to establish ranches and grazing reserves across the country as a solution to the incessant clashes between Fulani Cattle Rearers and Local Farmers.

“Government will do the needful to enlighten Fulani Herdsmen on how to make cattle rearing more profitable by utilizing the ranches and reap other social and political benefits that such settlements will offer”.
