Buhari’s govt a judicial clearing house where no APC is ever guilty, PDP Says

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has labelled President Muhammadu Buhari’s government as a judicial clearing house where no member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or friend of the party is ever found guilty of corruption.

PDP which said this in a statement by the spokesperson of Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee, Dayo Adeyeye, was reacting to President Buhari letter to the Senate absolving the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal and the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, of any wrongdoings in the allegations of corruption against them.

The Senate had following a petition by the Department of State Security (DSS) refused to approve Magu as EFCC chairman. A Senate committee also indicted Lawal of involvement in award of contract relating to IDPs camp in Borno State.

However the President in a letter to the Senate on Tuesday absolved the two top government officials of any wrong doing.

In its reaction, PDP argued that it has now become clear that the President’s anti-corruption war has ended, adding that the war was merely targeted at the opposition alone.

Part of the statement read, “It is no longer news that all those who are serving in the government of President Buhari or who are members of his party, the APC within the last two years of his administration have been cleared of any wrongdoing; notwithstanding documentary and other incontrovertible evidences to the contrary.

“The Presidency in today’s dispensation is the ‘judicial clearing house’ issuing clean bill of health to all accused corrupt officials who are members of the APC and friends of the administration.

“It is quite disturbing that the President cleared his SGF of wrongdoing despite the weighty evidence of the ‘Grass-cutting abilities’ uncovered by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, implicating Babachir of complicity in the award of contract relating to the IDPs camp in Borno State amounting to over N200million.”

The party went further to point that it was disturbing how President Buhari disregarded a report by the DSS indicting Magu of corruption but was quick to order the invasion of homes and arrest of judges based on DSS reports.

It listed those Buhari has cleared of any wrong doing despite clear evidence indicting them to include the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, accused of owning properties in Dubai beyond his income; Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahaman Dambazzau (rtd) allegedly owning properties worth over N1.5billion in the United States.

Others are Jafaru Isa, who PDP said allegedly received millions of naira from the purported Arms money, but has been allowed to go about freely because he is a friend to the President and the President’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, who according to PDP has several allegations of corruption hanging around his neck.
