CAF AWARDS: Rohr, Oshoala, Eagles, Falconets up for honours today

Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr is a contender for the award of the Best Coach in the continent at the Aiteo Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards at Accra, Ghana on Thursday.

The Franco-German coach, who led the Men’s national team to seal their qualification for the 2018 World Cup, will battle Egypt’s Hector Cuper and L’Hussein Amoutta of Wydad Athletic Club

Also, up for honours at tonight’s event is Super Falcons’ and Dalian Quanjian star, Asisat Oshoala.

Oshoala, who was highest goal scorer in the Chinese women league this season, is the reigning African Women Footballer of the Year and will be hoping to retain the title.

There are even more honours possible returning to Nigeria from the Gala, as the Super Eagles and Falconets are contenders in the National Team of the Year categories.

While the Eagles, who became the first African team to seal qualification for Russia, will be up against the Pharoahs of Egypt and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, the Nigerian U-20 women’s team will battle Ghana’s U-20 team and South Africa’s women team in their respective categories.

However, the nominees for biggest award of the night – the African Footballer of the Year – are Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as Nigeria’s Victor Moses didn’t make the final shortlist.

The Awards Gala will take place tonight in Accra, Ghana.
