Sundowns compound Enyimba’s woes with 2-1 win
Enyimba of Aba, on Sunday took a step closer to the group stage of the CAF Champions League after handing a 3-0 thrashing to Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia.
Nigeria Professional Football League record goal scorer, Mfon Udoh, scored a hattrick to take his total tally in the competition to seven goals, making him the top scorer in the tournament.
Udoh scored the first goal as early as the 9th minute of the game, however, all efforts to increase the tally in the first half proved abortive with Chinedu Udoji and Ifeanyi Anaemena losing some scoring chances.
Enyimba returned in the second half with purpose and were rewarded with the second goal in the 59th minute when Udoh scored from a close range.
The visitors were however reduced to 10 men with 20 minutes to the end of the game after Ghazi Abderazek earned a second yellow card for dissent; he had earlier received a yellow card in the first half after taking out his frustration on a ball boy.
The former Akwa United striker completed his hattrick in the 80th minute as the Peoples Elephant draw closer to the group stage.
The second leg is scheduled for April 19 in Tunisia with the winners over two legs progressing to the group stage.
