CAF president Ahmad congratulates all 24 teams which qualified for AFCON

The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad has congratulated all 24 teams that qualified for this year’s Nations Cup.

Last weekend saw the end of the qualifying campaign as the jostle over spots wrapped up with some thrillers.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is taking a new look in 2019, as it will be the first time 24 teams will be competing and also the first time the tournament will hold in June-July.

In a statement by CAF on its website, Ahmad own behalf of himself and the Executive Committee of the continental football house expressed, “satisfaction over the quality of the qualifiers and confidence in the new format of the AFCON.”

“With certainty the 2019 edition of the Total Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Egypt from June 21 to July 19 and will be completely new and attractive on many fronts,” CAF noted.

President Ahmad thanked all the countries that participated in the qualifiers and congratulated the 24 countries that qualified for the final tournament.

21. Guinea-Bissau

23. Tanzania
24. Benin Republic

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will play an International friendly against the Pharaohs of Egypt today (Tuesday) in Asaba as part of preparations for the AFCON.
