Morocco may put in a bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and CAF ExCo member, Mr. Amaju Pinnick says the continental body will support them “100%.”

With Russia (Europe) hosting the event next year, and Qatar (Asia) in 2022, Africa is one of the four other confederations eligible to host the tournament in 2026, according to Fifa’s rotational hosting policy.

And Morocco, like United States of America, Canada, and Mexico, have expressed their interest to host the global competition.

“I’ve been told Morocco wants to put in its bid and CAF will support them 100%,” Pinnick, president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), told BBC.

“It’s a country that can host the world. They are a very hospitable people; there is a good network of roads and they have practically everything.

“If they want to host the World Cup, CAF will support them 100%.”

Pinnick continued: “This weekend they are hosting the French Super Cup – between Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco – they’ve hosted the Club World Cup (in 2013 and 2014), they’ve hosted practically everything.”

Meanwhile, interested countries in the hosting right have until August 11 to submit their bids.

“I’d be surprised (if Morocco does not put in a bid), but I think they will,” added Pinnick.

The decision on who will host the event will be taken in 2020.

The 2026 World Cup will be the first to feature 48 teams instead of the current 32.
