For the third time, Super Falcons and Dalian Quanjian’s striker, Asisat Oshoala, has been crowned Women’s Player of the Year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). She was announced winner at the Awards Gala on Thursday night.

Oshoala, who helped Nigeria to the 2016 African Women Cup of Nations title in Cameroon, also helped her club to the title as the highest goal scorer in the Chinese Women League this season.

Receiving the award at the ceremony in Accra, Ghana, Oshoala encouraged African women in their pursuit of excellence.

“When I left Arsenal to China, people said my career was over. Here I am winning this award once again.

“To the young girls out there, don’t let anyone talk you down,” she said.

In the Men’s Player category, Egypt and Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah was crowned the 2017 CAF Player of the Year.

Salah, who already won the BBC version of the award last month, beat Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the award.

“Winning this award is a dream come true. I want delicate this award to the kids in Egypt and Africa. I want to tell them that never stop dreaming,” Salah said after receiving his award.

Meanwhile, the Men’s National Team of the Year award went to Egypt after they reached the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and also qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The team’s head coach, Hector Cuper, who led them all the way, was also crowned the Best Coach on the continent at the ceremony in Ghana.
