CAFCC: Rivers United face exit after home defeat

Nigeria’s representatives at the CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United are in the verge of crashing out after falling at home on Sunday.

The Port Harcourt side were beaten 2-0 by visiting Tunisian side, Club Africain in the matchday-5 game at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.

The match was heading towards a 1-0 defeat for Rivers afer Mannoubi Hadded’s opener, but team captain Festus Austin scored an own goal by deflection to hand the Tunisians a healthy 2-0 win.

In the other group tie also on Sunday, Morrocco’s FUS Rabat lost 3-1 to home side KCCA of Kampala.

Stanley Eguma’s men, who are bottom on six points, will now need to defeat FUS Rabat in their last group game away to stand a chance of going beyond the group stages.

“There’s one more match for us to play in the group . We will give our best when we play FUS Rabat and hope the result of the Club Africain versus KCCA favours us,” the team captain said.
