Cameroun: Cross River tightens security at border posts

Cross River State government yesterday said it had mobilised security agencies to all the border posts between the state and the Republic of Cameroun as more than 5, 000 Cameroonians attempt to flee the crisis in the Central African country.

This was disclosed by the State Security Adviser (SSA) to the Governor, Mr. Jude Ngaji, in an exclusive interview with New Telegraph in Calabar.

Ngaji said the state government was working with immigration and other agencies of government to keep the stranded Cameroonians at about three meters away from the various border posts, explaining that this was to enable the various agencies profile them before being allowed into the country.

“I am right now with the Comptroller of Immigration and what we have done is to ensure that we control the border posts. I must tell you that more 5, 000 Cameroonians are at the border posts dotted around the state, but right now, they are just about three meters away from the border and the government has drafted security to the border for profiling,” he said.
