The re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari may have suffered a great blow following the defection of his campaign coordinator to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State

The coordinator, Ignatius Edet who mobilises for the president across the 31 local government areas of the state announced his return to the PDP at the flag-off campaign of Governor Udom Emmanuel held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday.

The former Speaker of the state House of Assembly said he was driven out of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a result of the high-handedness and impunity that have characterised the party.

While referring to the last primary election of the APC in the state, Ignatius explained that an aide to the President bastardised the process by hand picking candidates for the party.

He said his experience in both the PDP and APC had allowed him to tell the party he prefers.

Edet said, “I have seen it all both in the PDP and the APC and I can tell the difference.

“I decided to leave the party because of impunity and high-handedness of the officials, some of them were seen handpicking aspirants at the last primaries.”

Meanwhile, Emmanuel, who is seeking re-election urged the people of the state to vote PDP result of which would transform the state.

The governor said, “I offer myself to complete what we have started for the youth. There are elements of integrity, love and sincerity contained in all sections of our manifesto and our commitment to industrialisation, the youth and women empowerment, education and robust health system remains irrevocable.

“I did not come to complete monuments but to complete life-touching projects. The APC promised you 31 industries and power generation. Did they do them?

“You must therefore rise against kidnapping, killings and politically-motivated crimes.

“The PDP is the only party with economic blueprint, blueprint for capacity development and the youth empowerment,” he submitted.
