CAN raises alarm over plans to disrupt guber election in Taraba
The Taraba State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has raised the alarm over plans by some politicians to cause mayhem in order to disrupt the governorship and House of Representatives elections billed for Saturday 9th March in the state.
The state Chairman of the association, Rev Innocent Solomon, said this on Monday at a press briefing in Jalingo, the state capital.
According to him, the association was in possession of a document which detailed how the plans were to be executed, adding that some people planned to cause mayhem in some designated places in the state capital.
The plan, Solomon added, was to cause a postponement of the elections so that a new date could be fixed to give undue advantage to one of the political parties.
“The plan is to manipulate the results in favour of a particular political party. Failure of INEC officials to cooperate with them will see them destroying the office.
“Information available to us indicate that the evil plan will enjoy the cover of the newly posted commissioner of police in the state who will instruct his men to look the other way in the face of this ugly event.”
