Far-left Catalan political group, CUP, a key ally of the movement to declare independence is reportedly pilling pressure on Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont to go ahead with the decision to part ways with Spain.

The political group has called on Puigdemont to make an unequivocal declaration of independence in defiance of deadlines and reject the threat of direct rule from Spain.

“If (the central Madrid government) wants to continue to threaten and gag us, they should do it to the Republic that has already been claimed,” the party said.

A threat has also been issued by Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to suspend Catalonia’s autonomy if it eventually goes ahead to chose independence amid growing calls for it to shelve the idea.

Four days ago, Puigdemont stated that although he accepted the “mandate of the people” for the region to become “an independent republic,” he was ready to delay the implementation of the mandate while dialogue took place.

If Catalan can seek for their independence from Spain, I hope this won’t re-ignite the buried Biafrans to rekindle their agitation to secede Nigeria?
