The leaders of the Catalan separatist movement in Spain would be found guilty of sedition and misuse of public funds, local judicial sources reveal.
If found guilty of the charges, the Catalan leaders will each spend at least 15 years in jail over a 2017 bid for independence.
The verdict is expected to be made public next week, most likely on Monday, reports say.
Al Jazeera reports that the pro-independence movement regards the leaders on trial as “political prisoners.”
According to the report, the defendants are being held up as a symbol of what the pro-independence movement says is Spain’s very rigid and overly tough stance on the independence movement here [Catalonia].”
