CCT chairman faces contempt of court charges

Published

on

Chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Yakubu Umar, may be charged for contempt of court today.
This followed a ‘notice of consequence of disobedience to order of court’ filed against him by one Francis Ogar, over his wrongful dismissal from the CCT.

The National Industrial Court (NIC) had ruled in 2005 that Ogar be reinstated. He filed the suit on April 10, 2018 and attached a reminder of an earlier application, titled ‘notification of, and demand for compliance with the judgment delivered by Justice Maureen Esowe.’

He said the action would amount to the chairman being guilty of contempt of court, and liable to be committed to prison.

After a 13-year- legal battle, the court also ordered that Ogar’s salaries and entitlements be paid from February 2005 till the date that the judgment is executed and the sum liquidated. The Industrial Court has fixed today, May 8, 2018 for sitting on the contempt charge.
