CCT: FG insists Saraki has serious case to answer

The Federal Government has asked the Code of Conduct Tribunal to dismiss the no-case submission filed by Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The government while making the prayer on Thursday told the court that it has a serious case against Saraki.

The Federal Government is prosecuting Saraki on a 16-charge count of false declaration and other related offences preferred before the tribunal.

But Saraki, had in a no-case submission filed before the CCT on May 26, 2017, asked the tribunal to sack the case against him because none of the exhibits tendered, nor evidences given by the four prosecution witnesses, linked him to the alleged offences to warrant him to defend the charges.

Counsel to the Federal Government, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), on Thursday objected to the no-case submission and said that there was “serious prima facie case” against the Senate President.

In his submission, chairman of the CCT, Danladi Umar, said the date for the ruling would be communicated to the parties soon.
