Chairmanship: PDP stakeholders’ meeting deadlocked

Published

on

The meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus held last Wednesday to streamline the number of aspirants to the National Chairmanship of the party was deadlocked. The meeting was attended by members of the National Caretaker Committee, Board of Trustees (BoT), PDP Governors’ Forum and the National Assembly caucus.

Eight aspirants are contesting the chairmanship position, which has been a source of worry to party stakeholders.

The position is zoned to the southern part of the country, and the aspirants are drawn from two of the three zones in the region.

A source told New Telegraph that the meeting was called as part of peace building process, and to forestall any likely post-convention backlash because of divergent interests of party members in aspirants.
