Paris Saint-Germain Coach Unai Emery believes his side can beat Champions League title holders, Real Madrid after both teams were drawn for the round of 16.

The French Ligue 1 giants were eliminated after a 6-5 aggregate loss to Barcelona last season, but the coach sees this season’s tie against Real as a ‘wonderful chance’ to perform at the ‘highest level.’

Speaking to Diario AS, the former Almeria, Valencia and Sevilla manager said: “It is not the worst possible draw and I believe we are now at a level where we can defeat Real Madrid.”

He added: “This club wants to do something massive in the Champions League and to do that you need to compete against and beat the top European sides.

“I believe this encounter will have the eyes on the football world on it, just as our tie last season against Barcelona did.

“I have a lot of knowledge on Madrid, how they play, their style and what the atmosphere in the Bernabeu is like, I also have a lot of friends in the Spanish capital.

“This tie is a wonderful chance for us to perform at the very highest level.”

Having finished second in their group, Madrid will host PSG on February 14 before traveling to the French capital for the second leg of the tie two weeks later.
