Chelsea begin title defence with defeat to Burnley

English Premier League defending champions, Chelsea, were beaten 3-2 by Burnley in their first match of the season at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The champions had two men sent off in the game, Gary Cahill in the 14th minute and Cescc Fabregas in the 81st minute.

But Burnley did put up a discipline, energetic and ruthless display that saw them 3-0 up before half-time, with Sam Vokes netting twice either side of a Stephen Ward goal.

The Blues were better after the break and pulled a goal back when Alvaro Morata headed in on 69 minutes shortly after coming in as a substitute.

And just two minutes to stoppage time, David Luiz fired home to make the scoreline 3-2.

Chelsea will play away to Tottenham in their next league game on August 20.
