Chelsea go 10 points clear after draw at Burnley

English Premier League leaders Chelsea went 10 points clear at the top of the table after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley FC at Turf Moor.

In the absolutely brilliant game on Sunday, both teams gave everything. The organisation from Burnley was exceptional as they dealt with their visitors and looked more likely to score a winner in the second half.

Pedro finished off a sweeping attack when Victor Moses set him up in the 7th minute to put the Blues ahead, before record signing Robbie Brady, who was making his full debut, equalised for the home team in the 24th minute.

“The home form is unbelievable and we stuck it out and it is a great point in the end.

“I was lucky enough that it went in because I did not have the best of games. I’m glad it managed to get us a point in the end,” Robbie Brady said after the match.

Chelsea missed the chance to move 12 points above second-placed Tottenham, thanks to Brady’s equaliser.

Reacting to the goal, the Blues’ goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said: “I got a little finger on it but it was not enough. You could try to anticipate and then might save it but they could go in your side.

“In the second half they defended very well and we were maybe sloppy but in the situation, a point is not bad,” he added.

In an attempt to save the day, Manager Antonio Conte brought in Willian and Fabregas from the bench, but with 20 minutes remaining against a determined Burnley side, the team couldn’t make a lasting impression as the game ended with one point each to both sides.

With their additional point, Burnley climbed to 12th above Watford on the table.

What’s next? After hosting Lincoln City in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday, Burnley will begin a run of four consecutive away games as they travel to Hull City on 25 February. While Chelsea will play Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday before hosting Swansea in the Premier League the following weekend.
