Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater charged with drink-driving after crash

Chelsea and England footballer Danny Drinkwater has been charged with drink-driving after a car crash, according to reports in the UK.

The midfielder was arrested after a Range Rover crashed in Mere, Cheshire, in the early hours of Monday, with two women and a man treated at the scene for minor injuries, Cheshire Police said.

29-year-old Drinkwater was released on unconditional bail to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on 13 May.

The former EPL champion with Leicester City is expected to appear in court on May 13 to answer charges concerning the incident.

“A 29-year-old from Nether Alderley has been charged with drink driving following an incident in Cheshire,” read a statement by the Cheshire Police.

“Danny Drinkwater, of Bollington Lane, was arrested shortly after 12:30am on Monday April 8 following a one-vehicle collision on Ashley Road in Mere.

“He has been released on unconditional bail and is set to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Monday May 13.”

Chelsea are aware of Drinkwater’s case, but yet to make detailed official statement concerning it at the time of this report.

Drinkwater has not played any Premier League match for the Blues so far this season under Maurizio Sarri.
