Chelsea's Kante claims treble honours

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante was named EPL Player of the Year, making it three individual honours, having already been named Player of the Year by the Football Writers Association and the Professional Footballers Association.

The award was announced on the English Premier League’s official Twitter handle on Sunday.

The 26-year-old Frenchman, who joined the Blues from Leicester City last summer, became only the second player to win a second consecutive Premier League title – one with former champions and current ones, Chelsea.

Kante beat teammates Eden Hazard and Cesar Azpilicueta, Tottenham’s trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to the award.

“It’s a huge honour to be named player of the year… and I want to thank everyone who voted for me,” Kante said in a statement on the EPL website.

“I work hard in training, I try to give my best and I work with so many very good players; that’s why we won the league two times.”

Champions Chelsea will play Sunderland in their final game of the league season on Sunday, after which they will officially lift and celebrate their won trophy at Stamford Bridge.
