Chibok girls: A dark anniversary

Chibok and the shame of a nation

It is two years and this sordid event has been celebrated all over. CNN the international media platform spent the whole day yesterday showcasing and keeping their memories in our face.

But permit me to say something quite stupid. The video of the girls they showed, threw images of well fed and well kept young ladies, who I dare say may have not been this well taken care of if they were not in captivity.

But that said, freedom no matter the type is still forever better than captivity no matter the luxury you experience in it.

The sadness etched on the faces of the mothers cannot be described. The pain and the shame of a nation remains out there for all to see and ridicule. How can so many girls be so perfectly hidden that two years after we are still looking for them.

This is all the more ludicrous when you consider the fact that daily we are being inundated by stories of the capture of top henchmen of the Boko cult. Are we saying that these people under our control cannot be debriefed to give up the whereabouts of the Chibok girls?

This is really frustrating and a slap in the face of the intelligence community and a total shame to the whole of the nation.

Let’s find the girls, simple. It was an election promise and I am sure one of the reasons Nigerians chose Buhari and his APC over Jonathan. And for me this would be a clear appraisal issue in measuring the performance or otherwise of this present Government.

The girls must be found and quickly too. Nothing more to be said. I have spoken.
