Chile beat Portugal on penalties to reach Confederations Cup final

After a goalless 120mins, Chile eventually defeated Portugal 3-0 on penalties on Wednesday to book their place in the final of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.

The Copa America champions, who are making their debut in the pre-World Cup tournament, will now play either Germany or Mexico in Sunday’s final in St Petersburg.

Chile and Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was the hero of the night as he saved kicks from Ricardo Quaresma, Joao Moutinho and Nani while Chile converted all of theirs.

“We are satisfied with the result and how we played, but we have still not won anything,” Bravo said after the win.

“The secret of our success is that we’re very constant.

“We never stop believing in ourselves and we want to do everything we can to win.”

The other semifinal tie between World Cup holders Germany and Mexico will take place on Thursday, as the winner of the clash will set up a Chile final for Sunday.
